JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Council of Royal Court today denied that Tunku Nick Tazuddin Izwan Syah Tunku Qadir, who was convicted of causing hurt to national boxer Muhammad Farkhan Mohd Haron in 2012, is a member of the Johor royal family.
In a statement issued here today, the council’s president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli also reiterated that in a statement issued on Sept 22, 2017, it had stated that that the right and authority to appoint and include a person or persons as a member of the Johor royal family is vested with the sovereign.
This was provided for under Article 7 (2) (e) of the Second Part of the Johor State Constitution of 1895.
“The Council of Royal Court has confirmed that the accused was never appointed, made or recognised as a member of the Johor Royal Family,” said Abdul Rahim.
Abdul Rahim was commenting on two news reports yesterday which described Tunku Nick Tazuddin as a member of the Johor royal family.
Yesterday, Tunku Nick Tazuddin was given a lesser jail sentence of two years and fined RM10,000 after the Court of Appeal upheld his conviction for causing hurt to the national boxer.
Bernama’s story on this had stated that Tunku Nick Tazuddin was a member of the Johor royal family and apologises for the error.
