PUTRAJAYA: New director-general of the Road Transport Department (RTD), Datuk Shaharuddin Khalid, clocked-in for duty at 8am today at the Department's headquarters here.

Upon arrival, he was greeted by RTD officers in an official ceremony in the lobby of the Transport Ministry’s building here.

Shaharuddin, 57, replaces Datuk Nadzri Siron, who led the Department since June 16, last year. He was formerly the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Legal Advisory Office Head.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference earlier, Shaharuddin pledged his commitment to rebrand and improve the Department, and bring it to greater heights.

"The Department is already on the right track. With my presence here, I hope we can do better in terms of good governance and service delivery.

"As what Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak envisioned, the people should be put first. Here at the RTD, we are committed to serving the people.

"From now on, we will look into our programmes and services to better serve the people. If deemed unnecessary or troublesome for the people, we will scrap programmes and replace them (with ones) which are acceptable to the people.

“We will start reviewing all services and improve if we have to," he added.

Shaharuddin also said that he will forge closer ties with the police and other agencies to ensure the Department’s good governance.

Among his other previous positions are the MACC’s Academy Management Centre's Head of Corporate Integrity, and the MACC's Inspection and Consultation Division's director. © New Straits Times Press
