KUALA LUMPUR: Two buses carrying Myanmar, Philippine and Thai players for the SEA Games squash competition were involved in an accident.
Filipino team manager Abad Santos said they were in the first bus together with the Thailand team when the second vehicle carrying the Myanmar team suddenly crashed into them from behind.
“We had a police escort and everything seemed fine until we were hit by the other bus,” said Santos.
It is learnt that some members of the Myanmar team suffered minor injuries.
City Traffic Investigation and Legal Affairs staff officer Deputy Supt Shafie Daud said the incident occurred at around 7.50am near the Sungai Besi toll plaza heading towards Kesas Highway.
He said one of the buses braked abruptly when a motorcycle swerved in front of it.

“The other bus travelling behind could not brake in time and rear-ended it,” he added.
He said the buses were ferrying 13 athletes from Thailand, 10 from Myanmar and five from the Philippines.
The Malaysia Organising Committee (Masoc) expressed regret over the accident.
Masoc Sports and Technical Committee secretary Datuk Low Beng Choo said their medical committee had attended to those injured at the Games Medical Centre.
“We are relieved to learn that some of the athletes have been cleared to compete by their own team doctor after undergoing a medical examination,” said Low in a statement.
All matches were suspended yesterday morning while an urgent team managers’ meeting was held to revise the competition schedule.
