THE Malaysian chinlone team trained for only three months for the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and but it was still good enough to better their achievement of one silver and one bronze at the 2015 Singapore SEA Games.
The chinlone team concluded their KL 2017 campaign with a 1-1-3 haul after winning silver in the non-repetition primary and bronze in the non-repetition secondary events at the Titiwangsa Indoor Stadium yesterday.
The team of Muhammad Idham Sulaiman, Mohd Zarlizan Zakaria, Wan Muhammad Syazwan Wan Mohd Asri, Muhamad Asyraf Abd Hadi and Nur Hidayat Ar Rasyid and Mohd Haiqal Damanhuri collected bronze with 106 points in the non-repetition secondary event.
Heavyweights Myanmar picked up gold in the non-repetition secondary event after amassing 149 points to upstage Laos (148 points) in the final.
Idham then combined with Mohd Zarlizan Zakaria, Ab Muhaimi Che Bongsu, Muhd Faiz Roslan, Putera Aidil Rafi Kamaruzaman, Izuan Fendi Azlan, Mohd Kamal Aizat Azmi to bag silver after losing 363-300 to Thailand in the non-repetition primary final.

Idham was proud of the team’s achievement despite them not winning gold.
“We are improving fast and closing the gap on the favourites. We never managed this many points in training,” said the Klang local.
“We didn’t target any medals in these events but we managed to get a silver and a bronze. So I feel that it’s been a good outing.
“Most of us are sepak takraw players and we only began training for chinlone the last three months. It’s a totally different sport, but I think we did okay with the short preparation.”
