GEORGE TOWN: A short video clip of a van being chased by police cars along the busy Lebuh Campbell went viral on social media on Sunday.

The 18-second video showed three cars in pursuit of a van along the road, with pedestrians scrambling to get out of the way.

The clip triggered a flurry of responses from worried members of the public.

However, they fears were unfounded as it later emerged that the chase was an action scene being filmed for a movie.

It is learnt that Hong Kong filmmaker Herman Yau was filming a car chase for his upcoming movie, 'The Leaker'.

Traffic police has closed off the road from Saturday afternoon until evening to make way for the filming of this particular scene.

This wasn't the first time that the movie's production had caused a stir among unsuspecting members of the public. Recently, a mock tombstone constructed at the Protestant Cemetery at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah had generated controversy among those unaware of the filming.

It is learnt that the production crew had already received the green light from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to film the movie at various locations on the island.
