PETALING JAYA: A video of a small child being brutally flogged has gone viral on social media.

In the two-minute and forty-nine second video, a woman was seen shouting at a young girl who appeared to be eating at a dining table.

The woman then mercilessly whipped the young girl and accused her of spilling food from her plate while eating.

The footage is unclear, but the woman appears to be using something similar to a rattan cane to hit the girl, who looks to be about five or six years old.

The woman also shouted "die, die, die" in Tamil as she rained continuous blows onto the crying girl who was screaming in pain.

The girl was believed to have received more than thirty lashes during the ordeal and the woman then removed the tearful girl's shirt and moved to another room.

Halfway through the beating, the girl was seen clutching her back with both hands in pain.

When the beating seemed to stop, the girl could be seen heaving heavily, clearly facing difficulty breathing.

Shortly after, the woman returned and slapped the girl on her face and her back. She also kicked the girl, causing the child to fall down before roughly putting a shirt on the child again.

The incident is believed to have occurred in Puchong Perdana although it isn’t known when it happened. It is also not known who took the video.

Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Azlin Sadari, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

"The victim has been saved and the suspect caught," said ACP Mohammad Azlin in a text to The Star.

He added that the remand order for the suspect will be issued on Tuesday.
