PETALING JAYA: In conjunction with World Cabin Crew Day, AirAsia boss Tan Sri Tony Fernandes paid tribute to his staff by putting himself in their shoes.
Not above getting his hands dirty, the low-cost carrier’s chief executive officer grabbed some disposable gloves and briefly went about collecting rubbish on board a packed AirAsia flight on Wednesday.
He later posted a short video clip on Instagram, where he is seen walking down the aisle, and collecting trash from passengers just like his cabin crew staff are accustomed to doing in every flight.
In the accompanying caption, he playfully called out cabin crew member @audreypetriny for filming him “secretly”.
“Hahaha @audreypetriny filmed me secretly. As it was world's cabin crew day and flight was full, decided to help out. Thank you to all my crew for all their hard work,” he wrote.
The incident is believed to have taken place on an AirAsia Indonesia flight on Wednesday, as Fernandes posted an earlier photo on Instagram suggesting that he was in Jakarta for several events.
“Had a great day in Indonesia. AirAsia Indonesia is rocking. What a turnaround. PS I love my new t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms from bape,” he said in the photo with AirAsia Indonesia staff.
He was later seen wearing the same t-shirt on the flight, where he performed his brief stint as a cabin crew member.
Fernandes' gesture was widely praised by his thousands of followers on Instagram, while the video clip had been viewed more than 200,000 times to date.
