PUTRAJAYA: Anti-graft investigators are looking into the “activities” of the general manager of a Prasarana Malaysia Bhd subsidiary when he was serving the company in Penang as they believe he has been pocketing money even way back then.
The 54-year-old suspect held the position of chief operations officer in a Prasarana subsidiary – between 2013 and last year and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is scouring for evidence that he abused his position while holding the post.
He was transferred to Kuala Lumpur this year and was overseeing a technical support project.
Investigators seized three cars from the senior officer – a mini Cooper, a BMW and a Volkswagen Passat – apart from freezing several accounts belonging to his wife and him totalling half a million ringgit
“We have already started interviewing staff of Prasarana and will be talking to more people, including senior officials and companies that had dealings with him.
“Our officers have already obtained some documents and are going through them for evidence and to determine who else to call for their statements,” an MACC source told The Star.
The general manager and his wife were remanded for five days yesterday to allow the MACC investigate allegation of bribery involving the couple.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed for the couple to be held in custody until Monday.
The man arrived at the Putrajaya courts complex at 9am clad in MACC’s orange lock-up attire while his wife, 50, arrived separately 40 minutes later from Kajang Prison.
The couple appeared calm and did not shield their faces from flashing cameras. No relatives, friends or lawyers of the two were present.
The man was said to have accepted bribes to approve several projects involving the supply of buses, spare parts and maintenance works.
His wife was held to assist the probe as checks revealed that some of the money was deposited into her account.
