KUALA LUMPUR: Police reports for non-criminal cases here such as lost identity cards (ICs) or passports can now be lodged online with the launch of the Online Police Reporting System.
"In 2015 and 2016, over 80% to 90% of reports lodged in Kuala Lumpur are cases like people losing their ICs or passports, misplacing their handphones and runaway maids," said city police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh at a press conference at the General Operations Force base in Cheras on Sunday.
He said the new system is aimed at easing the burden of the public, as it will allow people to lodge such reports from their homes.
The system was initially run as a pilot programme at Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station in March this year.
"There was a positive response and we have decided to expand it to the contingent in Kuala Lumpur. Perhaps in the future, it will be open for the whole country," he said.
E-reporting is only open for Malaysians aged 18 and above.
Police also launched the Online Checking System, which allows members of the public who had lodged police reports to check the progress of their case.
"This one is open for police reports lodged anywhere in Malaysia," said Comm Amar.
The websites for the two systems are - http://ereporting.rmp.gov.my and http://sso.rmp.gov.my
