Police on manhunt to track down suspects in the Medinis BBQ Restaurant robbery in Taman Melawati.

Killed four are real rogues

SHAH ALAM: The robbers gunned down in a shootout with police in Wangsa Maju are believed to be part of a gang responsible for at least 30 robbery cases in Selangor.

“However we will need more time to investigate the matter,” state police chief Comm Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat told a press conference after witnessing the handover ceremony between former Selangor Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Amran Ramli and the department’s new head, ACP Amarjit Singh.
Selangor police will also focus on curbing gang robberies in the state, added Comm Abdul Samah.
In the incident on Thursday, police shot dead four men believed to be members of the Civic Gang who robbed a Chinese national of RM40,000 as he was about to settle some business matters at the Institute of Translation and Books.
The victim had earlier withdrawn the money at a bank in Sri Gombak.
Three of them had Indonesian passports while the other had permanent resident status.
Comm Abdul Samah said many of the victims in the state ran their own businesses and would make large withdrawals amounting to between RM30,000 and RM200,000.
“Once gang members identified the targets, they would wait for the targets to exit the bank before robbing them as they get into their cars or corner them mid-way to their destinations,” said Comm Abdul Samah.
In a separate case, he said a task force has also been set up to track down suspects in the Medinis BBQ Restaurant robbery in Taman Melawati.
“We have made some progress but I am not ready to make any announcements,” he said.
Last Saturday, six men armed with machetes entered the eatery and robbed patrons and employees before fleeing with cash and valuables worth close to RM30,000.
