KUALA LUMPUR: Taxi driver Zamrod Adam’s honesty in returning a purse to a female passenger has paid off when his two children are set to benefit from education aid courtesy of NAZA World Group of Companies.
Two of his four children, Athirah, 21, a Universiti Teknologi Mara student, and Muhammad Zaim, 17, will receive RM500 each every month for the next three years.
Zamrod, 58, was full of gratitude as he spoke to reporters after receiving mock cheques from NAZA Group executive chairman Datuk SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin at the ‘Heroes Among Us Reunion’ event here today.
“It’s everyone’s responsibility to return the belongings of others. This should be everyone’s guiding moral and primary principle,” he said.
The story of Zamrod’s honesty went viral after he personally returned the purse belonging to Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) chief executive officer, Ong Bee Leng, when she accidentally left the item in Zamrod’s taxi.

Ong had taken to Facebook to express her heartfelt gratitude to Zamrod which had also gone viral.
Recalling the incident in February, Ong said Zamrod’s honesty made her believe that there were still good people out there.
“I was at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang to catch flight to Penang when I realised that I didn’t have my purse with me,” she said.
Ong said she approached the airport’s information counter for help when she suddenly received a call from Zamrod informing her that the purse was with him who subsequently returned it to the grateful owner .
Today’s event was part of NAZA World Group’s corporate social responsibility programme to appreciate excellent individuals who inspire others. --BERNAMA
