ALOR SETAR: A 20-year-old female college student, who was arrested in connection with a baby dumping case here, was charged at the magistrate’s court in Jitra near here.
Nur Izzati Adi was brought before magistrate Nurfadrina Zulkhairi yesterday and charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for the murder of the newborn baby boy by drowning him in the toilet bowl of a hostel.
The alleged incident took place at the ladies’ toilet on the third floor of an agricultural college in Bukit Kayu Hitam at about 5.20pm on March 30.
However, no plea was recorded from Nur Izzati who was represented by counsel Tunku Intan Mahiya Tunku Mahamad. DPP Parihah Ab Kadir prosecuted.
She was denied bail and was sent to the Pokok Sena prison.
Nurfadrina fixed June 7 for re-mention pending the complete post-mortem report.
According to case facts, police detained a college student on March 30 after a report was lodged at the Kubang Pasu district police headquarters in Jitra on the same day of the incident.
Police initially investigated the case under Section 318 of Penal Code for concealment of birth by secret disposal of the dead body, but then changed their investigation to murder after post-mortem report disclosed that the baby was born alive.
Police also arrested her boyfriend, a chalet assistant in Pendang, to assist in the investigation.
