IPOH: Police on Thursday confirmed two reports of incidents of rape and sodomy involving four inmates at a prison and a detention centre in Taiping.
State CID chief Datuk Gan Tian Kee said the first victim, a 23-year-old male convict, was reportedly sodomised by a 50-year-old fellow convict at Taiping Prison.
The second case involved a 27-year-old inmate who was sodomised by a 42-year-old detainee at the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping.
"The reports were received at 4.55pm and 5.22pm on March 23," Gan said in a statement today.
Both cases are being investigated Section 377C of the Penal Code.
In line with the concept of “self-sufficiency” introduced by the Prisons Department in 2014, the detention centre is used to churn out food products, such as vegetables and fish, for inmates’ consumption.
The detainees are made up of criminals selected from various prisons who are categorised as low-risk, and serve short sentences.
