Commercial vehicles must affix rear reflector stickers immediately: RTD

PUTRAJAYA: The government has announced that all commercial vehicles must display reflector stickers only in the rear, effective immediately.
The rule that reflectors must be displayed on either side (left and right) of commercial vehicles, meanwhile, has been postponed until further notice, said the Road Transport Department (RTD) in a statement today.
"The government has postponed the enforcement of displaying reflectors on several occasions since 2003.
"We must give priority to safety measures, which we cannot compromise on. We hope the full enforcement can be realised soon," it added.
On acquiring the reflector stickers, the RTD said they can be purchased from dealers and from the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).
It also urged commercial vehicle operators to buy genuine reflector stickers and stressed that it will work with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry to curb the sale of fake reflectors.
It was reported that genuine reflector stickers have a visibility range of 400 metres and last for seven years.
The RTD also encouraged companies which have secured Sirim certification, MS 828:2011 for their reflector stickers to make themselves known.
So far, only two companies – Orafol Reflective Solutions Sdn Bhd and 3M Malaysia Sdn Bhd – have Sirim certification.
However, the RTD said reflectors sold by 3M Malaysia have been temporarily prohibited, pending re-endorsement from Sirim
