Woman charged with killing Indonesian maid, injuring Cambodian


GEORGE TOWN: A 42-year-old woman has been charged in two courts here allegedly with the murder of an Indonesian maid and the other for causing grievous hurt to a Cambodian maid.  

At the Sessions Court, Chan Lay Lee claimed trial to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Anad, a Cambodian, by using an iron rod, from July 2016 to Feb 25 this year at a house in Lebuhraya Jelutong.  
The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code is punishable with a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine, or whipping.  
Chan was subsequently accused in a magistrate's court with the murder of Jubaedah, an Indonesian, on Feb 25 around 11am to 4.45pm at the same place.  
She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.  
Chan was not allowed bail.  
Sessions Judge Irwan Suainbon and magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid fixed May 11 for mention.  
DPP Nurul Huda Idris and Nurul Fatin Hussin prosecuted at the Sessions Court and magistrate's court respectively.  
Chan was represented by A. Ruebankumar.  
Chan and her husband were detained on Feb 26.  
The 48-year-old husband and the couple’s Cambodian maid, 22, who were also detained for investigation, had been released on bond. 
It was earlier reported that the couple’s 38-year-old Indonesian maid allegedly fell from the staircase of the double-storey house in Jelutong.
