BUKIT MERTAJAM: The body of a baby boy, believed to be a newborn, was found in a rubbish dump at Block L, Apartmen Permata, Bandar Perda here today.
The body was found by maintenance worker Mahmud Manaf, 80, who was searching for plastic bottles to be recycled at about 11.30am.
"I felt something like a human head and called out to my friend to take a look at the wrapping," he told reporters at the scene here today.
When contacted, Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid confirmed the incident, and said the baby is believed to have been born elsewhere before it was left at the scene.
He said police will look at recordings of a closed-circuit camera in the area to help in the investigation.
"The body has been sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem," he said, adding that members of the public with any information on the incident could contact their nearest police station. - BERNAMA
