Dubbed 'Canada's worst rapist', Selva Kumar Subbiah will stay in Kuala Lumpur for now and not return to Penang as previously reported.
SEPANG: Sporting a cap and dressed in a dark long-sleeved polo shirt and jeans, convicted serial rapist Selva Kumar Subbiah today arrived in Malaysia after spending 24 years in a Canadian jail.The Qatar Air flight from Doha carrying the 56-year-old touched down at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 7.30am today, following a stopover in Doha.
Selva Kumar, considered “Canada’s worst rapist”, was accompanied by three Canadian Border Security Agency (CBSA) officers and was met at the airport by his elder brother, according to an individual close to his family.
Speaking to FMT at KLIA, he said Selva Kumar was expected to remain in Kuala Lumpur for the time being.
“He will stay in KL and not return to Penang as previously reported.”
Selva Kumar completed a 24-year sentence on Jan 29, and upon his release was detained by the CBSA pending his deportation to Malaysia.
In 1992, Selva Kumar was found guilty of 19 counts of sexual assault, 28 counts of administering a drug or noxious substance, 10 counts of various kinds of assault and a dozen other charges, including extortion.
Canadian news sources have dubbed him “Canada’s worst rapist”, who used powerful drugs to render his victims unconscious, before he molested and raped them. Among his victims was a 13-year-old girl.
Selva Kumar’s arrival today comes amid fears he is likely to reoffend.
On June 16 last year, a parole hearing was told that he had not shown any remorse and that he was a high risk ex-convict.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman said they would keep an eye on Selva Kumar and monitor his movements.
A day after his release, Selva Kumar told a hearing in Canada that he had a “structured release plan” for his freedom in Malaysia as well as “strong family support”
