KUALA LUMPUR: Two women were injured after the car they were travelling in plunged into the Gombak river along Jalan Kuching.

City Traffic Investigation and Legal Affairs staff officer Deputy Supt Shafie Daud said the incident occurred around 5.45am on Monday.

"We were only alerted about it around 7am when we found the black Proton Satria in the river.

"When we checked the car, we found that there was no one in the vehicle although the driver's belongings were still in the car," he said when contacted.

DSP Shafie added that a check revealed that the car belonged to a 36-year-old woman from Sarawak.

"There were no CCTVs or witnesses in the area which made it difficult to find out what happened to the driver.

"We then went to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital emergency department and found the driver and a passenger being treated there," he said.

DSP Shafie said the driver suffered injuries to her mouth, lips and eyebrows, while the passenger suffered minor injuries to her body and right eye.

"The passenger told us that they were travelling from her house in Teratai Mewah, Setapak, towards Balakong when her friend lost control of her car and skidded to the left and plunged into the river.

"She managed to get out of the vehicle and pulled the driver, who was unconscious, out of the car before calling 999," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
