Peka chief and aide remanded over rude FB remarks against Johor Sultan

JOHOR BARU: Pertubuhan Pelindung Khazanah Alam Malaysia (Peka) president Puan Sri Shariffa Sabrina Syed Akil has been remanded for three days by the Sessions Court here.

The remand order against Shariffa Sabrina, 54, starting Friday, was made by Session Court assistant registrar Hidayah Abdul Manaf.

Also remanded for three days was Peka administrative assistant Norhayati Shahrom, 51.

Shariffa Sabrina is being remanded to assist in investigations over alleged insulting comments against Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar on Facebook.



Shariffa Sabrina and Norhayati arrived at the court in a police vehicle at around 9.30am and left in the same vehicle after the proceedings ended at about 11am.

Also present at the proceedings was Siti Zabedah Kasim, who represented both women.

Earlier in a statement, state police chief Comm Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the women were detained by police in Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, Selangor, on Thursday to assist in investigations under Section 223 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He said police had received a report on Dec 20 over the allegedly rude remarks against Sultan Ibrahim which could cause disharmony and disunity in the country.

Comm Wan Ahmad Najmuddin said police also seized two mobile phones and SIM cards from the women.
