KUALA LUMPUR: Media Prima Bhd has been announced as Asiamoney’s Best Managed Company (Small Cap) across 13 countries with market capitalisation under US$1 billion (RM4.47 billion).
The coveted recognition was the result of an extensive poll conducted by the financial publication, inviting equities’ heads of research and financial analysts to nominate best-managed listed companies from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Asiamoney’s Corporate Governance Poll 2016 also named Media Prima Bhd in the Best for Disclosure and Transparency, and Best for Corporate Social Responsibility categories in Malaysia.
Group chairman Datuk Seri FD Iskandar said the recognition by the industry was testament to the level of commitment the group placed to ensure governance, transparency and implementation of industry best practices while delivering value to shareholders.
“Despite the increasingly challenging environment in which the group is operating in, we have continued to be forthright and transparent in our reporting, as we believe it is incumbent upon us to provide the necessary information of the challenges we are currently facing and our strategic plans to address them moving forward,” he said in a statement today.
Group managing director Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin said Media Prima had consistently been ranked among the best in Malaysia and the region for good corporate governance by the financial community in the Asiamoney polls.
"The recognition received at the polls is yet another tremendous achievement for the group and is a tribute to the hard work and commitment of our board, management and employees.
"We remain committed to implement and practice the very best standards of corporate governance and responsibility while addressing the needs of our business ecosystem through various social responsibility-based programmes.”
In this Asiamoney poll, nominated companies were evaluated based on several key factors, including product and service innovation, rising market share, leadership in industry, financial performance, consistency of performance, executive leadership and corporate governance.
The Asiamoney Best Managed Companies Poll 2016 was conducted between May to July, enabled invited independent market analysts, financial analysts and heads of research to nominate companies in the market which they specialise in.
Last year, Media Prima Bhd received similar recognition when named Commonwealth Media of the Year 2015 by the Commonwealth Businesswomen’s Network. This accolade followed UK-based publication Ethical Boardroom’s conferment of the Best Corporate Governance, Media Company, Asia 2015 award to the company.
