HULU TERENGGANU: The Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating the dissemination of potentially defamatory images of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Prime Minister taken during last Tuesday’s royal swearing-in ceremony and signing of the instrument of office.
The images have been presented as proof that Sultan Muhammad V had supposedly refrained from shaking hands with Datuk Seri Najib Razak during the ceremony.
The pictures have gone viral after circulating on various social media platforms.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari said the ministry is conducting an investigation into the matter after receiving complaints regarding the images.
"When the MCMC receives complaints from any consumer, we (do) not hesitate to take action.
"I wonder why we still have people, who in my opinion, are shallow-minded and like to spread defamatory images, such as these,” he said after officiating the Risda Hulu Terengganu district-level 2017 school supply donation presentation ceremony here today.
"Any party or consumer (who comes across) defamatory images or matters that can threaten or disrupt public order can make a complaint either to the police or the MCMC for further action.
"I also want to warn those who are irresponsible... we at the Commission will not hesitate to take action," he said. - Bernama
