JOHOR BARU: Two cars belonging to an MIC division committee member went up in flames at his home in Taman Desa Jaya here.

Tebrau MIC division secretary S. Mahendra said that he and his family were in asleep when the incident occurred at around 2.30am along Jalan Lembah on Monday.

"I woke up to the screams of my neighbour who alerted us of the fire that completely damaged my SUV Hyundai Tucsom parked in the porch and also affected my other car, a Toyota Vios, which was outside the front gate.

"I rushed my family out of the house as the fire was getting bigger and reached the ceiling and walls of the porch," he said when contacted.

He added that he had used the SUV to attend a function the night of the incident.

"I got home around 10.30pm and watched television before going to bed at around midnight," he said, adding that he initially thought the screams were to alert him that a burglar had entered his home.
