People from the fashion industry paid tribute to late designer Sonny San, hailing him as a kind person and someone who had always lived his life to the utmost fullest.
San, 54, died from a heart attack on the morning of Oct 16. The man was famed for his ready-to-wear label Eclipse, and respected for having been one of the early pioneers in fashion within Malaysia.
“I have known Sonny since I was 18. We always had something to chat about when we saw each other at events. He loved travelling, and to us, he will always be young, fit and good looking,” said Malaysian model and actress, Bernie Chan.
Others expressed their shock upon hearing the news of his death, saying that it was totally unexpected and sudden. When contacted, fashion designers Melinda Looi and Khoon Hooi both said that words can’t express the grief they are feeling.
“He was such an amazing, crazy and wonderful man. He really lived his life. He always had a good thing to say about others around him, and always ready with advice for those needing it,” stated actor and entertainer Edwin Sumun.
Eclipse, founded in 1996 by San, made its mark in the world of fashion with a wave of international expansion. With his unmistakably feminine yet essential style, the label has featured impeccably draped dresses with stunning silhouettes that best represent pure, relaxed luxury.
