SUNGAI BULOH: A man who impersonated a police officer and believed to be involved in a series of robberies was injured in a shooting after a 2km high-speed chase here.

OCPD Supt Dr Abdul Aziz Awang Darus said the 42-year-old man was spotted driving a stolen car with an unidentified accomplice near the Sungai Buloh prison at about 5.30pm Thursday.

"The car was reported stolen in Selayang on Sept 20.

"Our men tried to make the driver pull over but he refused and sped off, which prompted us to give chase. We had to fire several shots since the driver was driving recklessly.

"One of the bullets hit the left rear tyre but that did not stop the suspect from speeding off for another 1km," he said at the scene.

Supt Dr Abdul Aziz said police saw the car stop briefly and the accomplice exiting to escape on foot.

"The driver continued speeding for another 1km. Again, we had to fire several warning shots but one hit him in the left shoulder.

"It forced him to stop the car near a convenience store near Jalan DC 4/3 in Desa Coalfields, where he was arrested.

"He was wearing pants and shoes like that used by police," he said.

Checks by police found that the man has a drug-related record.

"Investigations revealed that in the latest case, he and four accomplices were involved in a robbery in Kuang last week.

"Their modus operandi is to pose as policemen before pointing a weapon at their target, mostly women," Supt Dr Abdul Aziz said.

He said a woman is among the suspect's four accomplices sought by police.

Police seized three machetes, a crowbar, bullets and a set of allen keys believed to be used in robberies.

"We are still checking how many cases they're involved in. They're known as Gang Rizal Kundang because the leader, the one who was shot, is from there," Supt Dr Abdul Aziz said.
