BATU GAJAH: A senior citizen died of a heart attack while watching the live telecast of the badminton semi-final match between Datuk Lee Chong Wei and Lin Dan in the Rio Olympics on Friday night.


It is learnt that Lum Wah Wong, 64, was watching the game at his sister's home in Papan, near here when he collapsed about 9pm.


State Health director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie said a paramedic team from the Batu Gajah Hospital confirmed that the victim was already dead when he was brought to the hospital about 9pm.


"He died while watching the badminton match," she said here today.


District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasri Omar confirmed that Lum died of heart attack and had been receiving treatments for his ailment before.


Family members claimed that Lum collapsed after he stood up and shouted when Lee and Lin Dan was in the rubber set during the match.
