Ex IIUM student accused of making a bomb threat at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) kept snickering inside the dock while being charged

KUALA LUMPUR: An ex-student of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) accused of making a bomb threat at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) kept snickering inside the dock while being charged at the magistrate's court today.

Clad in an orange checkered shirt, Muhammad Hudzaifah Shubly Yasin, 29, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence and giggled in between the proceeding.

He was charged with committing criminal intimidation by claiming to a military personnel that he was carrying a bomb in front of MINDEF in Jalan Padang Tembak here around 8.10pm on Jan 20.

The unrepresented accused merely told the court that he had a bipolar disorder and kept his medicine with him at all times.

"You see, sometimes I am very sad and suddenly become extremely happy. I have my medicine here inside my pocket to calm me down.

"I will get mad if anyone here tries to provoke me," he said while raising his voice in court.

He was reprimanded by magistrate Husna Zulkifly for being disrespectful in court.

Nonchalantly Hudzaifah said 'I do not respect the judge (magistrate), I only respect Allah as human beings do not have any power, only Allah does'.

Husna then ordered him to undergo a month-long psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Bahagia in Rambutan to ascertain his mental state.

She fixed Feb 29 for mention pending the psychiatric report.

Earlier, when Hudzaifah was led into court by police, he greeted the people at the public gallery saying 'Assalamualaikum wahai ahli kubur' (Peace be upon you, people from the grave).

"This is my first time here, I am still getting used to this," he said to public inside the courtroom.

It was reported that a mentally unstable man who claimed that he was a member of the Islamic State (IS) militant group had went to MINDEF saying that he had a bomb with him.

The hoax has been making its rounds on social media due to the commotion.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zikri Jaafar prosecuted.
