Malacca CM wants action taken on self appointed Sultan of Malacca after title bestowing ceremony

Take action against 'Sultan of Malacca': Chief Minister

MALACCA: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron described the self-appointed Sultan of Malacca's act of bestowing titles as the act of a mad man and wants authorities to take action against him.
Idris said the era of the Malacca Sultanate ended in 1511, following the Portuguese conquest. Malacca is now presided by the institution the Yang di-Pertua Negeri or Governor, he added.
"If there are those claiming otherwise, I take them to be mad or living in their own world," he said after the introduction of football players and the signing of contract here for Malacca’s SAMB football team , today.
Idris was asked to comment on news of the conferment of the title 'Datuk Paduka Mahkota Melaka' to activist Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah by self-proclaimed Sultan Raja Noor Jan Shah Raja Tuah on Sunday, which had gone viral on social media.
Abdul Rani, on his Facebook page, was seen posing with a sash and medal with a message proclaiming that he was conferred the award, which purportedly carries the title 'Datuk Paduka'.
Idris said the title awarded by the self-proclaimed sultan was merely "play acting" by a person of unsound mind.
"I have directed the State Secretary to lodge a police report if his act disturbs and threatens the peace in the state," he said.
In 2006, Raja Noor Jan, 61, declared himself a descendant of Raja Parameswara Iskandar Shah at a ceremony in Sungai Duyong Malacca.
During the ceremony, he ‘raised’ the lost Taming Sari keris and ‘announced’ his return as the "Sultan of Malacca" after 477 years.
Over the last few years, he has drawn the attention of the authorities here, conferring titles to individuals at private ceremonies.
In Jan last year, he was arrested by police while on his way to Pulau Besar to attend what is also believed to be a thanksgiving function on the alleged revival of the Malacca Sultanate.
