KUALA LUMPUR: Two siblings have been charged in a magistrate’s court here with murdering their mother last month.
Muhamad Abdul Rahman, 25, and his sister Ainul Mardhiah, 22, who are both college students, did not show any emotion when the charge was read to them yesterday.
No plea was recorded. They were unrepresented in court.
They are accused of having caused the death of Wan Yah Wan Mat, 63, at a flat in Bandar Tasik Permaisuri, Cheras, between Nov 9 and 10.
The siblings face the mandatory death sentence under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Siti Radziah Kamarudin set Feb 29 for mention pending the chemist and post-mortem reports.
It was reported that Wan Yah, who was found with bruises on her eyes, mouth and back of her head, was pronounced dead by a medical team from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital at the scene.
Police had earlier received a call from a woman, claiming that there was water flowing from the front door of the flat.
The Fire and Rescue Department had to be called in to help the police gain access into the flat as the front door was locked.
The siblings were arrested at the scene.
