GEORGE TOWN: A snatch thief with a list of criminal records was given a bitter taste of his own medicine.
An attempt at grabbing a woman’s handbag ended in him being arrested after crashing his motorcycle in Chulia Street here.
A woman who witnessed the incident had driven her car ahead of the snatch thief to block his path, causing him to crash his machine into her car.
Passers-by managed to apprehend the snatch thief before handing him over to the police.
The victim, a 58-year-old woman, was waiting for a friend when the incident took place at 2.30pm on Thursday.
She fell face down when her handbag was snatched. She sustained injuries on her right hand, right knee, lips and several broken teeth.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the suspect, 29, had a number of records related to drugs and violent crime.
“We are grateful to the public as this will send a message to criminals that their actions are not only monitored by the police but also by the people,” he said.
