Boyfriend admits to murder, rape of female student because of jealousy

Cops: Boyfriend admits to murder, rape of female student

GEORGE TOWN: The female student who was found dead with slash wounds on her neck was raped before she was murdered by her boyfriend, said Penang CID chief, Datuk Zakaria Ahmad.

He said this was revealed by a man, aged 20, who was detained by police to help with investigations into the case.

Zakaria said he did it because he was jealous that the girl had another boyfriend.

"The man, a security guard at a school in Bayan Lepas, had a key to the victim's house and he was believed to have let himself in at about 6am Sunday.

"At that time, the girl was alone because her parents had returned to her grandmother's house in Bayan Lepas. Police are investigating how the man had the key to the house," he told a press conference here Monday.

On Sunday, the body of Intan Suraya Mawardi (pic), 17, a student of a secondary school in Teluk Kumbar was found by her father lying on a bed and covered in a blanket when he returned home at 7.30pm.

Zakaria said the man who had a drug-related criminal record was detained in Teluk Kumbar about two hours after the student's body was found and he admitted to killing her.

He said the man also brought police to the place where he discarded the knives used to kill the victim, hidden in a hole near a substation by the school where he worked.

"Police found two knives wrapped in a blood-stained white tudung accessory believed to be the victim's. Investigations revealed that the knives were taken from her house.

"Police also recovered the victim's handphone which had been discarded at the suspect's workplace," he said.

He added that based on investigations, the man who had known the victim from early this year, entered her house to kill her because he was angry and jealous.

"The victim was believed to have been killed about seven to eight hours before her body was found," he said.

Zakaria said man tested negative for drugs and that he was being remanded for seven days.

The student was buried at the Masjid Sungai Batu Muslim Cemetery at about 5pm Monday. - Bernama
