PETALING JAYA: Video footage from a dashboard camera of an attempted snatch theft in progress led to the arrest of the suspects involved.
The video, which went viral on Facebook, showed an elderly woman waiting to cross a road.
Two men on a motorcycle then snatched her handbag, but the woman held on tightly to it and was dragged along the road as a result.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Azmi Abu Kassim said the incident took place on Jalan 20/16A, here around 10.20am on Wednesday.
"Lau Hong Leng, a 40-year-old housewife, witnessed the incident when she was in her car waiting for her husband.
"She later lodged a police report with the license plate number captured in the video," he said when contacted.
The information provided led police to apprehend the two suspects, aged 21 and 24.
ACP Azmi said the victim, identified as 76-year-old Seow Wah Yin, suffered bruises to her forehead, right arm and foot from being dragged on the road.
"She managed to hold on to her handbag," he said, adding that she received treatment from a nearby clinic after the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for robbery.
