KUALA LUMPUR, March 24, 2015:
There are 20 channels for the public to lodge their reports on the misconduct of police officers, Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) revealed.
Its director, Datuk Zubaidah Md Ismail, said the public should not be afraid to lodge a report because all the information given would be investigated and treated confidentially.
She stressed that all information given must be in detail to ensure proper action could be taken against the officer who allegedly committed the offence.
“Ever since JIPS was established last July, we received numerous reports via different channels, including social media and through letters, on the misconduct of the officers.
“The way we see it, the public is now more confident with the police since JIPS was established and they should not be afraid to convey the information to us,” she told The Rakyat Post.Zubaidah added that 30% of the reports received were valid.
According to her, the total amount of reports or information they had received had increased by 63.3%, from 1,352 reports in 2013 to 2,208 in 2014.
She added that the reports could be lodged directly through phone calls, email, fax, letters, police reports, the media, via the Public Complaints Management System or by coming to the JIPS office.
Other than that, reports can also be lodged to agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, the Integrity Commission and the Public Complaints Bureau.
The public can also convey their information through the social media such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, WeChat as well as through non-governmental organisations and the Home Ministry integrity system.
“Among the reports we received were slow response from the officers to the civilians, aside from not adhering to internal rules.
“We are looking into every information and reports seriously and action will be taken as soon as the investigation complete.”
