Concerned motorists: Passers-by sheltering Nursyuhada while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
IPOH: Stunned motorists screeched to a halt when a car stopped in the middle of the North-South Expressway and a woman stumbled out of the driver’s side with blood oozing from her neck.
To their horror, a man emerged from the black Proton Perdana and hauled the woman, as she lay motionless on the road, to the side.
State deputy CID chief Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said UiTM Permatang Pauh student Nursyuhada Johari, 20, had her throat slit during the 11.55am incident yesterday.
“The victim and the male suspect were travelling near 228.2km mark of the highway in Bukit Gantang near Taiping at the time,” he said, adding that the suspect was a 25-year-old cook from Malacca.
ACP Fadzil said he escaped into a nearby jungle but returned to retrieve a mobile phone from the car shortly after that.
“The suspect was apprehended by passers-by and later handed over to the police,” he said.
“The woman was rushed in an ambulance to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital but died at about 2pm,” he said, adding that police also found a penknife near the crime scene.
ACP Fadzil said the case was being classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
It was believed the suspect was her boyfriend and that an argument triggered the incident.
However, according to a close relative, the woman had been abducted from campus at knifepoint by the man at around 11am.
“She knew this person but they are not lovers. Her friends have tried to prevent her from going with him. But she probably went along because she thought that she could placate him,” he said.
“We only found out what happened after contacting the suspect’s father,” he said, adding the cook had wanted to “befriend” Nursyuhada.
