Four nabbed in drug bust

KUALA LUMPUR: The Bukit Aman narcotics department busted a drug syndicate dealing with psychotropic pills and seized RM2mil worth of drugs.
Police also arrested a couple and two men, including an Indian national, following several raids on June 19.
Acting on a tip-off, police stopped a Proton Waja in Nilai with a 23-year-old woman and her 42-year-old husband inside at about 10.30pm.
Upon checking, police discovered 391,900 psychotropic pills worth some RM2mil in the boot of the car.
An hour later, police tracked down another two syndicate members, including the Indian national, in Putrajaya and apprehended them.
Narcotics Criminal Investigations director Comm Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said initial investigations revealed that the Indian national was the mastermind of the syndicate.
“We believe they were smuggling the drugs in from other countries via a local port.
“They have been operating for a few months and the drugs are meant for the local market,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman yesterday.
In another case, Comm Noor Rashid said police detained a Pakistani at KL International Airport with RM300,000 worth of syabu strapped to his legs on June 22.
“He strapped the drugs to both thighs in a bid to fool the authorities. He was being used as a drug mule,” he said.
In Kota Kinabalu, a 21-year-old woman from China was arrested with about 4.8kg ofsyabu with a street value of RM1mil on arrival at the international airport.
Customs officers at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport’s low-cost terminal found the crystalline substance hidden in a secret compartment of the woman’s suitcase shortly after she arrived from Hong Kong at 10.20pm on Sunday.
Sabah Customs Department director Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok said the suspect was supposed to take a flight to Kuala Lumpur on Monday before returning to Hong Kong from Kuala Lumpur on June 26.
