Najib, Obama hold bilateral talks at Seri Perdana

PUTRAJAYA: US President Barack Obama arrived at Seri Perdana here for a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Obama arrived at 10.35am on Sunday and was welcomed by Najib. The two leaders then posed for photographers.
Najib and Obama will have a four-eyed meeting before engaging in bilateral talks with the respective delegations and followed by a working luncheon.

Obama’s visit is a recognition of Malaysia’s growing role in the international stage as Kuala Lumpur is getting ready to take over the Asean chairmanship next year, and seeking a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council. 
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said the US leader's maiden visit provided a timely opportunity for both sides to reflect on the progress in bilateral ties and chart a way for the future at a time when Kuala Lumpur-Washington relations were at a zenith. 
Obama arrived in Malaysia on Saturday for the historic three-day visit and was accorded with an official welcoming ceremony at Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia is the third leg of Obama's four-nation tour of Asia. Prior to Malaysia, the 44th American president had visited Japan and South Korea. He heads to the Philippines on Monday.
