MALACCA: Police have solved the murder case of M. Gunaseelan with the arrest of a 49-year-old unemployed man some 800 metres from the murder scene at 10pm, yesterday

State Police Chief, Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye said the suspect, married with a child, was arrested outside the Nexus Hotel in Jalan Angkasa Nuri 21.
“The suspect did not resist arrest and we also seized from him three handphones, believed to be used to make the ransom calls and short messages to the victim’s mother, A. Letchumy, 44.
“We also seized the clothes worn by the suspect during the alleged kidnapping of the 13-year-old student, who is known to the suspect since the past few months as they often met at the cybercafe in Taman Angkasa Nuri, where the boy frequents to play games.
“We believe that the suspect acted alone in the kidnapping of the boy which he had admitted was done as he was facing financial problem and wanted to gain RM20,000 from his actions,” he said.
Chuah said that the suspect, a Malaccan, had admitted to have enticed the boy to follow him to the vacant shoplot by claiming that he could play computer games there for free.
“The suspect even led us to the scene of the murder, at the first floor of No 30, Jalan MJ 47, Taman Merdeka Jaya, where he had tied the hands and legs of the boy to a plastic chair and covered his mouth with masking tape,” he said.

At the press conference at the State Police Headquarters in Bukit Beruang, Chuah also said that the suspect had been remanded till April 29 for murder and kidnapping.
Chuah also revealed that the suspect is wanted for allegedly driving in a reckless manner and causing death in Ipoh, Perak.
