Teen married off six times in two years

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl claims she was forcibly married off by her parents six times in the past two years, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The teenager, whose father Mohammed Akhbar owned a pawnshop, finally escaped and approached the Hyderabad police with the help of a representative from a non-governmental organisation on Wednesday.
In 2012, Akbar with the help of his third wife Niloufer, sister Mehrun-nisa and a marriage broker, had married off the girl for Rs30,000 (RM1,600) to a man named Basheer.

Basheer, however, abandoned her several months later.
This led to another marriage to another man also for Rs30,000 (RM1,600).
Her third and fourth marriages last year were performed in Mumbai for amounts ranging from Rs50,000 (RM2,668) to Rs1 lakh (RM5,337).
Several months ago, her fifth marriage was performed in Hyderabad with a Bahrain national for Rs1 lakh (RM5,337).
On Feb 14, she was married off to a 50-year-old man from Sudan.
Her family tried to send her to a hotel where the man was staying but the girl fled.
She spent the night at a relative’s house and approached the NGO on Wednesday.
