Motorcyclists attack cop following deadly collision

SUNGAI PETANI: A group of motorcyclists attacked an off-duty policeman after his car was involved in a collision with two people on a motorcycle at Jalan Badlishah here.
The incident happened at 3am yesterday when handphone shop assistant Norfaezah Budiman, 21, was riding pillion on her boyfriend Azwan Shah Ishak’s motorcycle to an eatery.
It was learnt that Azwan, 25, and Norfaezah both fell after the collision. Norfaezah died on the spot due to severe head injuries.
Azwan, who was seriously injured, was sent to the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries at 10am.
It was learnt that a group of about 100 youths on motorcycles came upon the scene and started attacking the policeman, who is believed to be in his 30s.
He was saved by several traffic policemen, who took him away to safety in a patrol car.
The policeman was said to be on his way to work at the Kuala Muda police district headquarters.
Kuala Muda OCPD ACP Khalil Arifin said Azwan was believed to be riding the motorcycle with a group of four other motorcyclists.
He added that the policeman was driving his car behind the group when he collided with Azwan’s motorcycle, resulting in Azwan and Norfaezah falling to the ground.
He also that said the policeman had lodged a report.
The case is being investigated under the Road Transportation Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.
