KUALA LUMPUR: Police have released pictures of robbers who tried to rob a licensed moneylender’s office in Jalan Ipoh.
Their images were captured on a CCTV at the office during their unsuccessful heist on Thursday.
“We know that they fled in a purple Proton Wira which had been reported stolen in Selangor recently,” city deputy CID chief Asst Comm Khairy Ahrasa said during a press conference at the city police headquarters yesterday.
In the incident, the four robbers were trapped between the front grille and the remote-controlled office door when they attempted to enter the place.
One of the men fired shots into the office and then at the door lock in a desperate attempt to flee.
An employee eventually used the remote device to open the door out of fear for the security of the staff.
The robbers then fled empty-handed.
SAC Khairy also said that a woman, who was seen in the CCTV during the robbery attempt, had been cleared of any wrongdoing.
“We apprehended her a few hours after the incident and after questioning her, we have ruled her out of being involved with the robbers,” he said.
