Malaysia Airlines Cabin Crew Threaten To Stage Walkout Protest Against Suspension of Union President

Malaysia Airlines cabin crew may stage walkout

PETALING JAYA - Malaysia Airlines (MAS) could see the biggest walkout of its cabin crew after the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) announced it would stage a protest against the airline's suspension of the union's president Ismail Nasaruddin.
The Nufam Secretariat said union members were expected to vote next week on the decision to hold the walkout, in light of MAS ignoring calls by the union to lift Ismail's suspension.
"A thousand or more cabin crew union members have voiced their sentiments and may go on a wide public protest against MAS in the coming few weeks of December.
"This will be the biggest 'walkout' to be staged by the airline's cabin crew union members," it said.
On its Facebook, the secretariat also claimed that the welfare of the MAS cabin crew had been undermined since negotiations with the management began.
MAS officials could not be contacted for comment on the matter.
Ismail, who is also MAS' chief steward, was suspended from duty on Nov 8 after he called for the resignation of MAS chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Jauhari Yahya.
